Part of the mission of the Texas Dawgs is developing excellence on and off the field. None of that excellence is possible without a great example at home to model.
We know that we have the best moms and we are so thankful for all they do to raise the quality players that we have in our organization. We are always aware, even if we don’t say thanks every day, of the countless trips back and forth to the field, all the dirty laundry, making sure all the gear is in the bags, packing the coolers for the baseball weekends and screaming cheers from the stands. So on their special day, we want to say thanks and let them know how special they are. We appreciate all you do and we love you so much. Happy Mother’s Day to all of our moms, step moms and grand mothers.
During our preseason workouts and our in-season competition, the Dawgs organization is always looking to acknowledge our players for acting or playing in a way that embodies our mission and core values.
One of the ways that we award our players for “Embracing the Standard” and exemplifying our vision for the development of outstanding players and young men is through our “Dawg of the Week” belt award. This award is intended to be awarded each week the team has tournaments and a regular basis through off-season activities. The “Dawg of the Week” award is voted on by our coaches and our staff after consideration of the most recent tournament or off-season period. To win the award, the player must “Embrace the Standard” by exhibiting the traits and values that are core to the Dawgs organization, including leadership, accountability, excellence determination and a winning attitude. The Dynamic Duo Comes Up Clutch for a Dawgs Total Team Effort Winning Weekend!
Jayden and Hunter B. played pivotal roles to help bring home a championship weekend at the Nations Baseball Mega Millions Million Point Tournament at Premier Baseball of Texas
The weekend of February 29th and March 1st the Dawgs 11U team played in and won the Nations Mega Millions Million Point event at Premier Baseball of Texas. The Dawgs went 5-0 on the weekend and defeated some very talented teams to capture their first championship ring of the spring season.
For the weekend, the Dawgs awarded Hunter B. and Jayden the “Dawgs of the Week” award. This was a unique occurrence to have 2 players receive the belt award, especially when the 12U also played this same weekend. Prior to making the organization making the awards, the 12U, as a team, requested that in recognition of the 11U tournament win that 12U belt award for the week be given back to the 11U. This decision does not diminish a successful weekend by the 12U. The team notched a 1-2 record playing good strong baseball in an all three games. However, this action by the 12U does exemplify what the organization is teaching about leadership and being good teammates. It is all about “Embracing the Standard”. Hunter B. with Ice in His Veins Propels the Dawgs into the Championship!
Hunter B. was one of the two 11U players to receive a belt for the “Dawg of the Week”. Hunter was key to the Dawgs tournament win and performed very well under pressure the entire weekend. As we all know baseball games have key moments and in the semifinal game, Hunter delivered in two key moments to almost will the Dawgs to a win.
On the weekend, Hunter recorded 2 saves on the mound working 2 2/3 innings giving up only 1 hit while striking out 8. At the plate, Hunter was 1-3 with 7 walks, 6 runs scored and 4 RBIs. However, for Hunter, he got the belt, in large part, because of his huge semifinal performance against Premier (Johnson). Hunter not only laced a two run single which wound up providing the winning margin but he also executed a 1-2-3 last inning striking out the side on 12 pitches to secure the 6-5 win and the trip the championship final. Through his performance, Hunter exhibited determination, excellence, a winning attitude and a passion for competition.
In a 6-5 game, Hunter B. strikes out the side in the last inning to save the Semifinal at the Nations Baseball Mega Millions Million Point Tournament at Premier Baseball of Texas
Hunter has a love for the game and is driven at all times to get better, so while he may not floor you with his size or power, none of that measures his heart and effort. Hunter, we know how talented you are, keep doing what you do and you will continue to be special.
Jayden Steps Up Big Time to Pace the Dawgs to a Victorious Weekend!
Jayden (J-money / J$) was the other player to receive the belt along with the tournament ring. Jayden excelled on both sides of the ball for the Dawgs, playing a stellar 2B and hammering the ball on the way to a 5-9 weekend scoring 5 runs and driving in 5.
Jayden picked up where he left off the prior week after a 3-3 Sunday. So, J$ has been a scorching 8-12 in his most recent at-bats. Jayden exhibited a great sense of determination and accountability with his performance in the tournament, bouncing back from a weekend where he did not play up to his high standards. J$ not only bounced back but he excelled as a key contributor and leader.
In a tight game with 2 outs, Jayden smashes a double in the Nations Baseball Mega Millions Million Point Tournament Championship to stretch the lead to 4 runs
Jayden brings a ton of energy, enthusiasm and leadership to the team and, as one of the most well-liked kids, he is able to be a great teammate. Jayden, with all of your natural talent and great attitude, your baseball ability is only going to get better. J$ keep being who you are on and off the field!

Brady Brings Power and Determination to the Dawgs!
The Texas Dawgs 11U played their second tournament the weekend of February 22nd at Scrap Yards. The Dawgs drew a very talented group of teams in the tournament and fell in the tournament quarterfinals. For the weekend, Brady was 4-8 with a homerun, a double, 6 RBIs and 4 runs scored.
His offensive performance was punctuated by a game trying 3-run homerun to dead center to tie the game at 5 against the Backyard Ballers. Brady also did some strong work on the mound after being inserted into the game after Alex was injured facing the first batter of the game. Brady completed 2 innings, allowed only 1 earned run and struck out 3.

We also continue to see great effort and development behind the plate where he is continuing to hone his catching skills. Brady was awarded the belt, in part, for exhibiting excellence at the plate and on the mound, however, the award is more about his developing leadership and continued determination.
Brady works hard every day whether at practice, lessons or just getting reps at home to be the best he can. Brady, you have always had the talent, but your desire to be in the moment and be the guy in pressure is growing. Keep it up, keep balling, leading and being a great teammate. Hunter H. Brings the Speed and Hustle to the Dawgs!
The Texas Dawgs 12U team kicked off their season the weekend of February 22nd and while the team went 0-3, they showed great effort and heart the entire weekend. For the weekend Hunter H. was awarded the belt. Hunter played amazing defense for the team the entire weekend, including making some sparkling plays at 2b. Hunter also lead the team in runs scored and worked hard on the mound to keep the team in the game against Team Houston.
Hunter H. provides the lightning wheels to earn a single on February 22 at Scrap Yard Sports
Hunter exhibited a take charge attitude of the infield and exhibited great traits as a team leader the whole weekend. Hunter plays hard all the time and always hustles, so much so, that he had to be told by the umpire to stop chasing foul balls, that is HUSTLE!! Hunter with your attitude, work ethic and athletic ability, the sky is the limit for you.

Caden Earns the First Ever Top Dawg Player of the Week Award!
Caden crushes a double on March 1st at Premier Baseball of Texas
Caden loves to work hard and is always willing to put in the work at practice, at lessons and off the field. He has put great effort into becoming a strong outfielder and continues to develop a very strong bat.
We are so happy to have Caden in our organization, he is not only a great kid, but he is a leader by example in terms of his effort, attitude and determination to get better. Keep working Caden, we are so excited about you as a player and a young man!! The Fox Takes Home the 1st Belt for the 11U!
Tyler won the Dawg of the Week for the 11Us first tournament at Big League Dreams on February 8th and 9th. The Dawgs finished third in the first weekend and this finish was directly impacted by Tyler.
For the weekend, Tyler pitched a total of 5 innings, including a 4 inning complete game to secure a win in Sunday’s bracket play. In that game Tyler, held the Gulf Coast Scrappers to 2 runs (I earned) only allowing 3 hits, struck out three and allowed zero walks. At the plate, Tyler also added 4 RBIs on the weekend. Tyler received the award because of his excellence on the mound and the winning attitude, he displayed the weekend.

Tyler is another one of those quiet leaders by example on the Dawgs. Tyler is a very talented player and is a lock down stud on the mound, but best of all Tyler is a good teammate and very coachable. Great job, Tyler, we are so glad you are a Dawg!!
When the Texas Dawgs were founded, we adopted a Mission Statement and Core values, which included a focus on the importance of giving back to the communities in which we play and understanding the value of service in building young men of character. In adopting these standards and values, we require all of our players to perform community service in order to be a part of our organization. For our spring season, our first service project was gather equipment donations for The Recycled Baseball Items Foundation (RBI) and Recycled Sports Items (RSI), fellow non-profit organizations. RBI and RSI are committed to keeping the Greater Houston Area's underprivileged youth off the streets, away from gangs, crime, and drugs, while offering them a positive and viable alternative in the form of participation in baseball/softball and other sports. RBI accomplishes this by providing baseball, basketball, football and other sports equipment, instructional sports clinics and college scholarships to those who are exemplary in both academics and sports. To support the cause of RBI and RSI, the Texas Dawgs engaged in a month long equipment drive requesting that players and families donate lightly used sports goods. On March 15th, RBI and RSI Foundation (RBI) picked up the items gathered by the Dawgs. The Dawgs Organization donated over 150 items to RBI and RSI. The items donated included gloves, bats, helmets, catcher’s gear, cleats, pants, protective gear and training aids. We are hopeful these items will help further the outstanding mission of RBI and RSI. We are so proud of our players and their families for their commitment to this project and their desire to support our community. Our players are truly “Embracing the Standard” of what it means to be a Texas Dawg!!! We are looking forward to our next community service project. Welcome to The Texas Dawgs March Madness Fundraiser: We have established this pool in order to (i) raise funds for our 11U and 12U teams to help off-set World Series costs for our trip to Louisville Kentucky this summer; and (ii) have some fun with March Madness. The cost for entry is $12 for 1 bracket or $30 for 3. You can enter as many brackets as you want, however, and we encourage you to do so. We will treat this pool similar to our Super Bowl square pools with winnings split between the team, the pool winners and administrative costs. We recently set the pool up at RunYourPool named 'Texas Dawgs Baseball'. If you are interested in joining the pool, please go to the following link and fill out the form: https://www.runyourpool.com/join/pool_info.cfm?id=132210&p=bhcuey Exact pay-out will not be known once we have a final number but if we gain 1,000 entries, which is our target that will raise approximately ($10,000-$11,000) and after about a 7% overhead we would pay out the winnings 70% to the Dawgs and 30% to the winner. Under this scenario , the winner would win $1,500, second place $750, third place $500 and the lowest score will win $50. Payments may be submitted via Paypal and Venmo. The PayPal account is PayPal.Me/txdawgs and the Venmo account is @Rob-Kerrigan. Please make the payments between friends. Both accounts have a Texas Dawgs logo if you are unsure. A brief reminder: Get your bracket(s) in before the pick deadline, which is Thursday, March 19th at 11:15 (CST) and make sure to review the pool settings. Only the main 64 teams that make up a standard bracket are included (i.e. the play-in games, or 'first four', are NOT included). Good luck to everyone. Outlined against a near cloudless baby blue February sky, the Texas Dawgs 11U were unleashed to play their inaugural game on Saturday, February 8th.
Playing in the Ebbets Field replica stadium at the Big League Dreams baseball complex in League City, TX, the Dawgs would have made “Dem Brooklyn Bums” proud assaulting Fort Bend Black Ops pitching to post a 9 run top of the first inning. The fast start lead to an 18-3 dismantling of their first opponent and provided the Dawgs a quick 1-0 start.
Logan got things started for the offense in the top of the 1st inning by notching the first ever hit (video 1) for the Dawgs lacing a hard line drive single to right centerfield.
Offensively, the Dawgs 18 run assault was aided by 15 hits, 5 walks and 18 RBI with every player scoring at least 1 run and the team batting a whopping .750 with runners in scoring position and zero strikeouts.
Individually, the Dawgs were led by Colton and Logan’s 3 hits each and Luke and Brady who had 2 hits each with Brady twice chasing the centerfielder to the wall on a 300 plus foot field, accounting for two booming doubles and 3 runs batted in.
Not to be outdone in the RBI department, Luke drove in 4 runs, Colton 3 and Logan and Tyler had 2 apiece.
On the defensive side, the Dawgs sent out 3 pitchers for this one as Alex got the first Dawgs pitching start ever. The Dawgs surrendered 3 runs in the first inning but were able to settle in and finish strong with Weston closing out the inning.
Weston then threw a dominant second inning ending his day by not allowing a run and recording 2 punch outs in his 2 innings of work. Colton came in to throw a very efficient third inning notching 2 punch outs of his own.
Hunter dives and makes the play in centerfield
The Dawgs also flashed some leather turning a fancy 3-3-2-5-2 double play to end the first inning and then got a highlight reel all-out diving catch by Hunter (video 3) in CF to stop a second inning rally.
Overall, the first game was a huge offensive success for the Dawgs, who took their training to the field, controlling at bats by being disciplined, staying in hitter’s counts and hitting their pitch. Additionally, the Dawgs showed the high end pitching and defense that will be core to their 2020 spring season success
Weekend Highlights
Overall, the Texas Dawgs had an up and down first tournament notching a 2-2 record and a 3rd place finish. While the Dawgs did not earn hardware in this first tournament they learned that they have great talent and the hard-core will to compete until the last out.
Understanding that the talent is there to get where they want to go, the Dawgs are looking forward to getting back on the field and “playing like a Dawg”. The Dawgs had several first weekend standouts on the mound, in the field and at the plate The hitting standouts were: Brady, who showed a power bat all weekend finishing 4 for 8 with a home run, 2 doubles, 2 walks, 5 RBIs and 5 runs scored. Colton, who finished the weekend going 4 for 10 while knocking in 5 runs. Alex, who scorched 3 hits, including a triple and a home run. On the mound: The Dawgs received more than enough quality pitching to win the tournament. Weston and Tyler notched the wins with Weston throwing 2 innings with 2 strikeouts and no runs allowed and Tyler going a total 5 innings allowing only 2 earned runs and striking out 4, including a 4 inning complete game victory on Sunday. Logan, Colton and Hunter all showed dominant stretches throughout the weekend with Logan recording 5ks in 3 innings, Colton recording 5ks in 4 innings of work and Hunter recording 3ks in his inning of work in game 2. Tyler’s complete game to go with his 4 RBIs and solid defense earned him Top Dawg Player of the Week honors.
